Senator Polley today called on Federal Member for Bass Andrew Nikolic to ask Tony Abbott not to terminate the jobs of 20 people from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) in Launceston.
It was reported today that the ATO is likely to close 11 regional sites across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. Launceston will be hardest hit with 20 jobs on the chopping block.
Senator Polley reiterated her calls for member for Bass Andrew Nikolic to act on this issue and be a champion for Bass.
“Mr Nikolic vowed to be a champion for jobs and a champion for the people of Bass. Mr Nikolic needs to talk to his leader and ask him why he is taking a wrecking ball to the ATO office in Launceston and other regional offices across the country.
"Mr Nikolic and Mr Abbott must support local jobs and regional services and send a strong message to the business community and investors who may be seeking to invest in Tasmania," Senator Polley said.
